In the spirit of the New Year, ya girl has decided to speed up cleaning out her Goodreads TBR because she NEEDS to get it done.
I’m back with the Down the TBR Hole posts! I haven’t posted one since November, and with it being January now, I want to finish cleaning it out as soon as possible.
ICYMI, this meme was originally created over at Lia @ Lost in a Story! It is incredibly fun while being productive and making me feel better about my TBR shelf since there are so many books, and not enough time to read them in!
For my TBR to be completely cleaned out ASAP, I have decided to raise the books that I look at per post from 5 to 10, if that makes sense?. My Goodreads TBR shelf was about 170 books at the beginning of this series, so I think we can get this done fairly quickly.
Quick Lil Disclaimer: Not everyone’s opinions line up, so if I don’t like a book, and you don’t, or vice versa, it’s okay! The Sun still rises we’re good I also don’t want to come across as shading an author – the authors have worked hard on these books, it’s just that some of them just don’t appeal to me/I’m not the right target market!
Since ya girl is very harsh with what she keeps and what she gets rid of, let’s get into (a lot of) TBR purging!
THE BOOKS: BOOKS #35-45
And I Darken (The Conquerer’s Saga, #1) by Kiersten White
Oh man … I really don’t know. I haven’t thought about picking this up for a while, but I’ve heard so many good things? I’m just going to remove this one for now but may add it back if enough of you all tell me to add it better.
Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate
I’m so indecisive, I can’t even? I mean, I wouldn’t mind reading it, but there’s not that HUGE reason for me to remove it. While the seven points of views sound creative, it also sounds like it’s going to be a hot mess.
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore
I know that everybody and their mother loves Anna-Marie McLemore, and I want to check her works out, so I guess I’m going to keep this one?
P.S: Which Anna-Marie McLemore should I start with? Can you help a very confused sister out?
What Light by Jay Asher
I have exactly 2 thoughts on it, one of which is that I really don’t care. I also really don’t want to support Jay Asher after the whole debacle.
Tales of the Peculiar (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, #0.5) by Ransom Riggs
Why.
Why.
2016 Taasia went full Boyle, didn’t she?
Unfiltered: No Regrets, Just Me by Lily Collins
I tried reading this 2 years ago, put it down a few times, and never ended up finishing it. I think I just added this because of Sasha @ A Book Utopia, but I just don’t think this is for me.
Winger (Winger, #1) by Andrew Smith
It’s 2019, but here I am, still finding an opportunity to plug in this gif without shame:
Seriously though, I’ve heard some problematic things about this book. I think I’ve made my feelings on this book perfectly clear.
A New Hope – The Princess, the Scoundrel and the Farmboy by Alexandra Bracken
I’ve lost 90% of my interest in the Star Wars Movies themselves. If I don’t care much for the original franchise, I don’t see much point in picking this one up.
The Empire Strikes Back – So You Want to Be A Jedi? by Adam Gidwitz
This is a sequel to the previous book, so even though I did enjoy the Empire Strikes Back, I really, really don’t give a hoot.
Return of the Jedi – Beware the Power of the Dark Side by Tom Angleberger
I have literally just got rid of the first two books in this series if you will, so I don’t have much reason to keep it.
REMOVAL PERCENTAGE:
90%
…. Yikes.
Which books should I have kept or removed from my TBR? Do you think I was too harsh with these books? What books have you added (or removed) to your TBR recently? I’d love to know.
Ahh I’m glad you’re keeping the Anna-Marie McLemore book! I want to read all of her books just as well, I’ve heard so many great things about her writing and I can’t wait. Maybe that should be our next buddy read at some point this year? 😀
You got rid of a lot of books there… that’s great haha some more place for great new books 😀

Ooo yes, totally down for another buddy read! 😉 I’ve heard so many great things about Anna-Marie McLemore but I’m not completely sure where to start, haha. Yeah, I figured that since I’m being harsh with getting rid of books, I can make room for new books, you know? happy reading!

In all honesty, the And I Darken series is great! I’ve only read the first two so far—the second one being >>> than the first one—and I can say that it’s worth it once you manage to get into it. Here’s hoping it captures your interest again someday and you end up re-adding it bc ahh, the pai—I mean it’s great!
Also, you got rid of a lot of books…damn lol. I recently started doing this meme because my tbr is just a huge mess of books from 2012-2019 and I need to revise what’s in there after all this time and it usually takes me forever to pick which ones are staying and which ones are being removed but oh well! Hopefully you’ll finish cleaning yours soon!

Ooo that’s good to know! I may consider picking it up, however, I don’t think I’ll put it back on my TBR for now. That doesn’t mean that I won’t ever not read it 😉
I’m pretty harsh with this meme, haha, I think. I think it’s because I didn’t really know my reading tastes before and just added anything and everything. I’m going to try to speed through it to get it done before May, but I’m not sure how yet 😅 Hope you finish decluttering your collection, and best of luck! Happy reading!
