September Reading Plans – Wrapping Up my August TBR (Welp) + My (Pretty Much) Unrealistic September TBR

September is here, and I am back with an unrealistic TBR that I will probably not complete!

But hopefully, that will not be the case.

I’m sectioning off my September TBR into different parts, and I’m going back to my flexible TBR system – having a wide range of books & mood reading from that, though I’ll mostly just be reading from one section!

I’m going to try & read at least 12 books (so I can try & get to 150 books this year) BUT I’m not sure whether that’s feasible? I don’t know, because as the month goes on, the workload will definitely get worse, and I don’t know how to cope with that. (Spoiler: it’ll probably be audiobooks).

READALONGS

Truly, September is the month of all the readalongs. Not gonna lie, this is going to be a lot of reading within a tight timeline, but I’m really crossing my fingers for this. This means that this part, in a way, is my priority TBR for the month.

I mean, I’d love to get to the other books on my TBR, but this is what I NEED to focus on. And I’m putting school first, so reading will be second priority? I don’t know.

I also want to read 150 books by the end of the year, which involves reading 12 to 13 books, so.

I haven’t finished the series (I’ve only read The Raven Boys and it would be cool to catch up on things).

  • Apparently, each book in the Raven Cycle focuses on one main character, which is interesting? I’m really hoping I like this series. But also, if I’m being honest? This readalong is the one lowest on my priority list/in this section.

  • Not gonna lie, I heard some pretty mixed things about this series finale, but I’m hoping I like it when I read it! That’s the hope.

• Unpregnant (Unpregnant, #1) by Jenni Hendricks and Ted Caplan
  • Apparently this is a book about abortion & I’ve seen some solid things about it? I also really like the cover of this one. But also, I believe a cis man is helping write this (please don’t quote me on this), which sounds a little … dicey.
• Five Dark Fates (Three Dark Crowns, #4) by Kendare Blake
  • I finally caught up in the series by July, and I’m super interested to see how everything will turn out! It might be a read that I save for half-term/term break.
• American Royals (American Royals, #1) by Katharine McGee
  • So this is a, “trashy”, fun, drama-filled book about the American royal family? Alright, you’ve got me interested.
• Frankly In Love (Frankly In Love, #1) by David Yoon
  • Fake dating? Asian culture? A coming-of-age YA contemporary novel? YES. (Also, I saw this was expanded to become a series on Goodreads, which, well, I don’t know how to feel about it).
• His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler
  • Admittedly, I’m not a die-hard, super Poe fan, but Annabel Lee was one of my favourite poems and I really want to read some more Poe. The author line-up seems really good so that’s exciting! Also, reading Poe helps me conduct further reading for English, which is great.

Since ya girl is taking four AS Levels (and perhaps 4 A Levels, but that’s another story for another time), I’ll be doing a lot of further reading, one of which is English Literature (I love it, but it’s intense, my dudes. Four texts before March? It’s a lot). I know I’ll be reading and analyzing a whole load of short stories for one of my papers, so I’m putting this section as a way for me to check in with my reading & for me to feel some sort of self-accomplishment when I check in in October and find that I failed my September TBR. And since I don’t know which ones (and how many) we’ll be doing in September, I’m putting all of them!

Also, my English teacher is really pushing us to do further reading, so I’ll just add a couple of texts for that? I also really want to read around the subjects I’m taking (English, History, Psychology and Drama, for those asking aka no one), in order to expand my knowledge and just for learning. And honestly – that’s a pretty awesome feeling.

CONTEMPORARY-A-THON

So you all know that I’m contemporary Trash. If you don’t, it’s basically Fact at this point and we have all learnt to accept it.

One of my favourite readathons, Contemporary-a-Thon, is being hosted from Monday, the 23rd of September, to Sunday, the 29th of September by the lovelies Chelsea @ Chelsea Dolling Reads, Melanie @ Mel To The Any, Julie @ Pages and Pens, and Natasha @ My Reading Is Off. I’m not sure how realistic it is for me to participate in it this round, but I really want to try my best to participate in it!

And if I do participate in it, I’ll likely go with the shortest book there, or whatever I’m in the mood for. I’m picky like that.

• Going Off Script by Jen Wilde
  • So apparently this is a YA novel tackling straight washing in the film industry? Which in itself, sounds great, but I’ve also heard some great things from some of my friends, and I’m really excited to read this.
• Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett
  • I read Alex, Approximately in August, and really enjoyed it. This is the other book of hers that I’m interested in reading, and it sounds so cute? Detective stories, fall vibes, hotel things and the fact that this is set in Seattle, like Sleepless In Seattle (!!!!) sounds like my cup of tea.
• The Summer of Jordi Perez by Amy Spalding
  • I had this on my June TBR, and got a little through it before putting it down for some reason? But LOOK this sounds so cute, fun and a quick read, and I really want to finish this!
• The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling by Wai Chim
  • This is a book that I took from CW’s amazing list of YARC recommendations for September! CW just sold this book so well that I’m incredibly intrigued, and excited, of course!
• Everything Here Is Beautiful by Mira T. Lee
  • Another CW recommendation! (Seriously, you all – CW’s recommendations are GOLD). Apparently this has a prominent sister relationship and mental illness representation, which is awesome. I just need to read this ASAP.
• Frankly In Love by David Yoon
  • Note: I’m putting some of these titles in italics since this book is already in another section as well, and I’ve said all I need to say about it.
