October Reading Plans – My Birthday Month (!!!) My, Mixed September TBR Wrap Up + My Laid Back October TBR

Hey there, demons. It’s me, ya boi ya girl, back with wrapping up her September TBR and sharing her October reading plans.

This is not Buzzfeed Unsolved, Taasia.

But it kind of fits because it’s the ~ spooky season ~??

It’s going to be a fun month because October is ya girl’s birthday! (I’m typing this the day before my birthday) and I’m just hoping it’s going to be a great day, okay.

I don’t know. I’m actually a mess.

Anyways, back to business and what you actually came here for.

Alright, who’s surprised I failed my reading plans (again?)

This is in honor of Mean Girls day, which has since passed, but whatever. Living in denial, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s chill.
Let’s, uh, move on.

October, for a good chunk of it at least, is going to be a pretty chill months in terms of reading plans. While my reading plans for the first two weeks are solidified (ish) I don’t know what to do for the second half of the month, so ya girl decided to structure her TBR in a slightly different way: have a few things I would prioritize, but other than that, just chill and mood read to her heart’s content. Treat yourself, am I right?

But hopefully, not my shelf. Because I am b r o k e.

NEW RELEASES:

  • 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston (1st) ✨✔️
    • I’ve already read this at the beginning of October, and I don’t want to spoil much for my recent reads post, but just know that it was great. The concept sounded so cute and I’m excited for the movie adaptation of this.
  • Rebel (Legend, #4) by Marie Lu (1st) ☀️🌸♿️✨🌍
    • I just finished rereading (and loving) the Legend trilogy, and while I am a little apprehensive of this one because Champion was the perfect ending and June doesn’t receive a perspective, I’m still excited to see how everything actually ends.
  • Ninth House (Alex Stern, #1) by Leigh Bardugo (8th) 🌸✨
    • Honestly, this sounds like everything I need and want in a book. Secret societies? Societal commentary? Dark, gothic vibes? Yale University? It sounds perfect on paper, and while there have been a lot of mixed reviews coming in, I’m really hoping I love it. And since this is releasing on my birthday, I’m going to get the ebook and begin reading it on my birthday as a form of self care because you gotta reward yourself 😊
  • Our Wayward Fate by Gloria Chao (15th) ☀️
    • I think anyone who has been on this blog for more than 2.5 seconds is aware that I absolutely adore Gloria Chao’s debut novel, American Panda. I’m so excited to read more of her work, and I’ve heard great things about this one so far.

BOOKS I NEED TO READ:

After the stricter months of August and September, I’ve come to a point where I honestly don’t know what I want to read. Therefore, I’ve decided that for the majority of October, I’m going to mood read and read whatever I want (within a certain structure, of course). I do have a few books that I DESPERATELY want to have read by October, which is below.

  • Before the Devil Breaks You (The Diviners, #3) by Libba Bray ✔️☀️🏳️‍🌈🌸♿️🤗💨📖🎧
    • I also just finished reading this yesterday, as of when I’m typing this. I’m so glad I finally read this book. The character work is so consistent, the ’20s setting is phenomenal and I can’t wait for The King of Crows. Also, I would give my life to January LaVoy’s audio narration for this series.
  • His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler ☀️🏳️‍🌈🌸✨🌍
    • A YA short story collection? Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe (who wrote my favourite poem ever, Annabel Lee), with a gorgeous cover and a fantastic author lineup? Yes, please. Also, this seems like such a great read for the October spooky season and I am excited. (Even though I don’t want to read a ton of spooky reads for October, because I’m just that person I guess).
  • Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett ☀️🌸✨📖
    • I tried reading this in September, but ended up putting it down because I just didn’t have the time for it. I’ve been wanting to read this one for a while now, especially since it feels like such a perfect, fall, cozy read. I may wait until I head back to Singapore to cheekily borrow the physical book from my local library, or just read it online. We’ll see, I suppose.
  • Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier 💨📚📖🎧
    • Admittedly, reading tons of spooky things during the Halloween season isn’t as big of a hit as it seems to be for so many people, but this seems like the PERFECT October read. I really need to read more classics, and this is a classic I’m genuinely interested in, so.
  • Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Susanna Ganucheau ☀️🏳️‍🌈
    • I tried picking this up for the contemporary-a-thon, but I just wasn’t super in the mood to read this then? The artwork seems lovely, (and the story – because hello, soft baking boys?) and I need to get. it. off. my currently read shelf.
  • Girls of Storm and Shadow (Girls of Paper and Fire, #2) by Natasha Ngan ☀️🏳️‍🌈🌸✨💨🌍
    • So I just found out I got an e-ARC of this, 2 weeks later? Yeah, I hate myself 🤦‍♀️ But I’m starting this on Wednesday (when I’m writing this) and I’m truly BEYOND excited and honoured. I think I nearly cried and died when I saw I got this. (I was in school, so my squealing and happy dancing got some, uh, questions).

Do you do TBRs? If so, how did you do on your TBR last month? What are some of your most anticipated releases for this month, and some books that you are dying to get to in September?

I would love to know!
